Application opens September 15 until October 3, 2022.   

The Starter Company Plus Program is an opportunity for new start up businesses in Northumberland County to launch and start their full-time business venture.  This is an opportunity for entrepreneurs in Northumberland County wanting to start a business, or have started a business less than 6 months. 

The Starter Company program offers businesses skills development, training, advice, and mentoring. Eligible approved applicants could receive a grant of up to $3,000. Completion of business training is mandatory to receive grant funds. Please see application for further training details. 

This is a competitive process and not all applicants will receive grant funds, spaces are limited.  This application will be scored and evaluated based on the information provided, please be as detailed as you can.

Eligibility

  • A new business start-up, or has been in operation less than 6 months
  • Age 18 years + 
  • Planning to operate a full-time business (25 hours +)
  • Not returning to school
  • A business operating in Northumberland County

Individuals/businesses are NOT eligible to apply if

  • They have received any funds from the Business Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland in the past 2 years. 

  • They are a franchise, including those individually owned and operated.

  • They are a not-for-profit/charitable organization.

  • A multi-level marketing business (also known as network marketing, direct selling, referral marketing, and pyramid selling) for sales.

Program process and requirements

September 15, 2022 - Applications open

October 3, 2022 - Applications close

October 12, 2022 - Successful grant recipients notified

October 19, 2022 - Mandatory training begins (successful recipients will be notified with the details of virtual training). 

Successful grant recipients will be required to provide Social Insurance Number for T4A purposes for the following tax year.
