I feel unsafe in my apartment. What can I do? 

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you feel unsafe in your apartment and need to leave, you can call Transition House at 905-376-9562. Women and families experiencing domestic violence can contact Cornerstone at 905-372-0746.

Can I still go to a shelter if I'm on social assistance? 

Yes, you can access shelter services in Northumberland whether you are on social assistance or not. If you need temporary housing or shelter there are several agencies that could help.

How do I get into Rent-Geared-to-Income housing? 

Visit the Northumberland County website to learn more about applying for Rent-Geared-to-Income housing.

If you have received a notice of eviction from your landlord, contact the Legal Centre at 905-373-4464 for help fighting your eviction. If you have rental arrears and are on social assistance, contact your caseworker and ask about the shelter benefit.
