Defibrillator Program

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) can help save lives when combined with early CPR.

Public Access Defibrillation Program

Our paramedics raise funds throughout the year that directly support the purchase of AEDs for the Northumberland community. Once our paramedics raise enough money to purchase an AED, they donate it to a not-for-profit organization in our community.

Organizations may apply for an AED donation if they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be not-for-profit
  • Must have a focus on sport or physical activity
  • Must operate within the boundaries of Northumberland County

The lifesaving importance of AEDs

Here are some of the reasons why more communities are investing in AEDs and making early defibrillation a part of their emergency response plans:

  • Defibrillation within three minutes of sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to 70%
  • Defibrillation within one minute of sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to 90%
  • Chances of successful defibrillation decrease by 10% with every minute that passes in a cardiac arrest
