Garbage and Recycling

In response to COVID-19, households will be required to place all garbage in a black garbage bag to be collected. Green bin material must be placed in a tied certified compostable bag. Recycling should be loose and sorted into blue and grey boxes.

Northumberland County provides weekly curbside pickup of household recycling, organics, and garbage, with the exception of the rural ward of Port Hope. There is no charge for recycling, but limits and fees are in place for garbage collection.

Curbside waste program changes

Follow the links below to learn about the new recycling changes, as well as the green bin program.

There is now a dedicated truck that collects recycling and a dedicated truck that collects garbage and the green bin. These two trucks arrive at different times on your collection day.
