Browse, shop and celebrate youth-owned businesses at the BECN Staples Youth Showcase

Cobourg, ON – July 24, 2024 – Community members and local media are invited to join us at Staples in Cobourg for the Business and Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland (BECN)’s Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase on Wednesday, August 14th. This annual trade-show style event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the talented craftsmanship and hard work of young business owners from across Northumberland, and shop their innovative products and services.

This showcase features passionate entrepreneurs from the BECN’s Summer Company and My Future My Career programs. These youth entrepreneurship programs offer students access to mentorship, business coaching and micro grants to help them launch or grow their own small business. The My Future My Career program is available to children ages 8 to 14 and offers micro grants of up to $500. The Summer Company program is funded with support from the Government of Ontario and is available to students ages 15 to 29. Successful applicants from this program receive up to $3,000 in micro grants to help fund their business expenses.

At the showcase, attendees can meet these budding business owners, learn about their products and services, and support local youth-driven enterprises. From handcrafted goods to cutting-edge services, the creativity and ambition of Northumberland County’s young entrepreneurs will be on full display.

Some of the products and services at this year’s showcase may include:

  • Homemade dog treats
  • Mental health workbook journal
  • Beaded jewelry and buttons
  • Handyman and home assistance services
  • Dog walking
  • Drone and business technology services
  • Soy wax candles
  • Baked goods
  • Lawn and garden care maintenance
  • Household plants
  • Freezies and cold treats
  • Homemade baked goods
  • Stickers, keychains and buttons
  • Crochet and felted buddies

For those who are unable to attend the Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase on August 14th, some young entrepreneurs from the BECN My Future My Career and Summer Company programs will also be showcasing their products at the Cobourg Farmer’s Market Youth Day on Saturday, August 24th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
