County celebrates International Museum Day with release of logo, concept drawings of new facility

Cobourg, ON – May 17, 2023 – In recognition of International Museum Day tomorrow, May 18th, Northumberland County Archives and Museum (NCAM) is proud to unveil its new logo design and concept renderings of the future facility, anticipated to open in the summer of 2024. The new branding and drawings reflect the organization's future role as a cultural destination for all ages featuring exhibitions, public programming, and an expanded reading room for public research.
The new logo is an acronym featuring the four letters of ‘NCAM’ using modern, rounded shapes that convey a friendly, playful and inviting feel. The abstract design invites viewers to see and explore NCAM from many perspectives: a window into the past, a door to new possibilities, and a place to grow.
The colours of the new logo have been carefully selected from Northumberland County’s brand palette. The blue and green emphasize NCAM’s mandate to serve all Northumberland municipalities while the purple and orange represent the creative and exciting new potential for archives and museum.
“The new logo is a symbol of NCAM's commitment to excellence in preserving and presenting the rich history of Northumberland in a fully accessible and inclusive facility,” states Warden Mandy Martin. “The logo marks a new beginning for NCAM as it embarks on its journey into a new space. We are excited to have arrived at this milestone. We look forward to bringing these new service offerings to the community.”
With the construction project well on its way, recently surpassing the fifty-percent completion mark, the County has released artist renderings of the new facility that showcase several exciting new features:
- An expanded reading room for public research
- Dedicated museum gallery space for public displays
- 50,000 linear feet of archive storage units
Currently located at 200 Ontario Street in Cobourg, NCAM will move as part of an innovative pairing with the new Golden Plough Lodge long-term care home currently under construction in Cobourg.
"The new facility is a significant step forward for NCAM, representing its commitment to expanding its role in Northumberland County and with its community partners,” says Abigail Miller, Archivist for NCAM. “We are thrilled to be expanding our service offerings and to be located alongside the Golden Plough Lodge to create opportunities that benefit not only public visitors, but residents, caregivers and families as well.”
International Museum Day is celebrated globally on May 18th. Northumberland County Council joined municipalities across the province to proclaim May as Museum Month to raise awareness of the role of museums in the development of society and their importance as cultural hubs and contributors to community wellbeing.
NCAM is a critical repository of information that engages the public through a variety of public programming initiatives to foster a deeper understanding of culture and heritage in Northumberland County. Northumberland County acknowledges the generous support of the Government of Canada towards the new NCAM building.
