County Housing Services Team Lends a Hand to Habitat Home Build

Cobourg, ON – August 22, 2013 – Staff from Northumberland County’s Housing Services team will today partner with Canadian Mortgage and Housing Company (CMHC) to contribute to the Habitat for Humanity build taking place at 354 Alexandria Drive in Cobourg.

"The County’s Housing Services team is always working towards the vision of providing quality housing and related programs that meet the needs of the community," states Mark Darroch, Director of Community and Social Services for the County. "We work very closely with the people of Northumberland County and have a strong culture of dedication to this community. We are so pleased to be able to join forces with Habitat, in partnership with CMHC, to support their vital work in bringing additional affordable housing units to the area."

Celebrating its 15th anniversary operating in the County, Habitat for Humanity is on the way to completing its 41st housing unit in Northumberland by the end of 2013. The organization aims to break the cycle of poverty by enabling eligible individuals and families to build and buy quality affordable homes through a combination of volunteer work, interest free mortgages that are set at 25% of the owner’s gross income, and homeowner training and support services.
