County seeking input on updated designs for County Road 64 in Brighton
Cobourg, ON – March 13, 2023 – Northumberland County, in collaboration with the Municipality of Brighton, is undertaking a study to plan for the reconstruction of County Road 64 and is seeking public input on recommended design improvements. County Road 64—also known as Prince Edward Street—is a primary route through the municipality, connecting to Prince Edward County, and is nearing its end of life and requires upgrades or replacement.
On March 21, from 5 – 7 p.m., in the Owen Gibb Community Hall at the King Edward Park Arena in Brighton, a public information session will be held to present preferred designs for the reconstruction of Prince Edward St. The County will be presenting revised plans based on the feedback received from the public information meeting held July 27, 2022 that initially sought input on opportunities for improvement.
“At the first public information session, we gained valuable insights from residents on how to improve road safety and how best to improve multi-use features for cyclists and pedestrians,” commented Denise Marshall, Director of Public Works for the County. “At the upcoming information session, we will be presenting the recommended preferred designs, based on the feedback we heard last summer.”
The County is conducting a study as part of the required Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, to consider improvement opportunities to guide the final design. The preferred designs include upgraded sidewalks, traffic calming features to reduce vehicle speeds, intersection upgrades, and paved shoulders for cyclists.
