Free disposal of ice storm yard waste debris up to 220 pounds at County waste facilities

Cobourg, ON—January 13, 2014 – As clean-up efforts from the recent ice storm continue, Northumberland County is reminding residents that all County landfill and transfer station locations accept leaf and yard waste, including tree branches, limbs, and stumps.

“As residents move forward with their clean-up efforts, we want to ensure that everyone is aware that the first 220 pounds of each leaf and yard waste load brought to our facilities is accepted free of charge,” stated Mo Pannu, Director of Transportation and Waste for Northumberland County. “We are also asking that, for safety purposes, where there are tree limbs or downed trees within County Road right-of-ways—such as ditches and boulevards —that residents leave these for our Roads Department to attend to as part of their ongoing clean-up efforts.”

A tipping fee of $40 per metric ton (or approximately 2200 pounds) applies to leaf and yard waste loads that exceed 220 pounds. Drop-off locations include:

  • Brighton Landfill – 1112 County Road 26, Brighton, ON
  • Bewdley Transfer Station – 7650 County Road 9, Bewdley, ON
  • Seymour Transfer Station – 344 5th Line West, Campbellford, ON
