Green Bin and Recycle Right programs launch Monday

Cobourg, ON – November 28, 2019 – The new Green Bin and Recycle Right programs officially kick-off on Monday, December 2.

“These new collection programs are cornerstones of the County’s Long-Term Waste Management Master Plan, the overall goal of which is to divert more than 75% of residential waste from our landfill,” states Director of Transportation, Waste and Facilities Mo Pannu. “The new Green Bin program will divert of over 2,000 tonnes of food waste from the landfill each year, with the new Recycle Right program achieving an additional 1,000 tonnes of diversion. We are very pleased to be launching these programs, which will generate many positive environmental benefits for our community.”

In preparation for this launch, Blue and Grey boxes and Green Bins have been delivered to the majority of households in Northumberland. The County is aware that some households have not yet received these supplies; deliveries to these locations are ongoing. In such cases, residents are encouraged to continue with current practices, using clear or clear-blue bags to set out their recyclables until such time as they receive the new boxes.
