Job search workshops launch for Northumberland newcomers

Cobourg, ON – January 14, 2014 – The New Canadians Centre (NCC) Cobourg, along with the Community Training and Development Centre (CTDC), will host a series of job-search workshops designed to assist newcomers with their job search in Northumberland County. The workshops, all scheduled for the month of January, will provide information on effective job-search strategies, the importance of networking, and how to use Snagpad, an online virtual job-coaching tool. Two newcomer job coaches will facilitate the three workshops and will introduce effective ways to guide newcomers in their job-search process.

The two job coaches, who each speak another language besides Canada’s two official languages of English and French, were hired in a collaborative initiative between CTDC and Northumberland County. The Virtual Job Coach project is funded by the Municipal Immigration Information Online program of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.

The first workshop is being held today, January 14, at the NCC Cobourg office at 50 Covert Street, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Additional workshops will also be held at this time and location on January 21 and January 28.

Interested participants must register by e-mailing Luz Ofelia Maya at luz@nccpeterborough.ca or by calling 905-377-8100. Registration and workshop materials are free. Participants will be registered to win a gift card.
