Local youth entrepreneur first Northumberland recipient of $5,000 ‘Starter Company’ grant

Cobourg, ON – October 8, 2014 – The Business Advisory Centre Northumberland is pleased to announce that local youth entrepreneur Danielle Scott has become the first Northumberland recipient of the $5,000 ‘Starter Company Small Business Grant’. Ms. Scott officially launched her new business ‘Scott Home Care Services’ this past June, specializing in personalized in-home care for seniors in Northumberland County.

"The Starter Company program offers young entrepreneurs the added support and mentorship to help make them a success and it also provides our youth with viable career options," indicated Advisory Centre Manager Rob Day. "We are thrilled to be providing this opportunity for young entrepreneurs in Northumberland. Over the next two years, we hope to be able to assist up to seventeen businesses with this program."

Starter Company provides coaching, training and mentorship to young people between the ages of 18-29 who want to start or expand a full-time business in Northumberland County. The exciting component of this program is that participants can apply for a $5,000 grant to help them kick off a new business or expand their current one.

Since launching her business, Ms. Scott has focused on assisting each client to reach his or her goal of living independently, while providing a wide range of in-home services such as personal hygiene care, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, companionship, transportation, respite care, palliative care, rehabilitative care, and more. She intends to use the grant to purchase additional equipment, and expand promotion of her business to a broader audience.

"I am so impressed by the level of support I have received so far as part of this program," said Ms. Scott. "Staff members have helped me with my business plan and the mentorship has been invaluable. I do not feel that I would have been able to start my business without the support of this wonderful program, and I would highly recommend it to other young people starting their own business."
