Opening of Porcupine Universal Trail

Cobourg, ON – May 29, 2024 – On Friday, May 31, 2024, representatives of Northumberland County and Alderville First Nation, the Hon. David Piccini, and special guests will officially open the Porcupine Universal Trail in the Northumberland County Forest. This initiative, to construct a universal trail in the County Forest, was made possible by the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream, and represents a significant investment in enhancing recreational opportunities for all community members.

The media and members of the public are invited to participate in the trail opening event starting at 11:00 a.m., and then join in a guided 30-minute interpretive forest trail walk by Alderville First Nation representative Jennifer Niles and Northumberland County Forest staff.

Following opening remarks, the public is invited to experience the trail and learn about the rich history of the Forest and the importance of the relationship between the land and the many guardians of the Forest.
