Cobourg, ON – July 13, 2020 – Northumberland County is inviting residents to provide feedback on the proposed design for the future Campbellford Bridge and improvements to the surrounding road network during their upcoming online public consultation period.

The new bridge will connect Second Street and Alma Street across the Trent River in Campbellford. Proposed road improvements include:

  • Minor modifications to intersections on Simpson Street, Alma Street, Second Street and Cockburn Street
  • A new roundabout at Alma Street and Grand Road
  • A new laneway between Frank Street and Saskatoon Avenue

In 2017, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) approved the Environmental Assessment for the new proposed bridge. With the approval, Northumberland County hired GHD to complete further site investigations and a detailed design of the bridge and surrounding road improvements. Site investigations included geotechnical borehole drilling on land and in the Trent River, ecological surveys, a noise assessment, and archaeological and cultural heritage investigations.

Due to ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19, this consultation period is taking place online with a self-directed consultation opportunity, supported by telephone and online Q&A sessions. Residents are invited to participate in the online consultation to:

  • Learn about and provide feedback on the proposed design for the new bridge and road network
  • Discuss their questions and comments with the County and project team at one of the Q&A sessions

Online Public Consultation (self-directed) is now available until August 28, 2020
