Hunting
There are many habitats in the Northumberland County Forest that allow hunting.
Permits and licences
The Northumberland County Forest does not have a specific hunting permit but you must have proper licences (e.g., provincial hunting licence, deer tag, federal firearm licence). The forest is patrolled by municipal law enforcement officers, provincial conservation officers and the Ontario Provincial Police.

All hunters must...
- not hunt any game other than deer (spring and fall) or wild turkey (spring)
- not hunt with rifles
- only hunt in areas east of County Road 45
- comply with all County, Provincial and Federal regulations
- respect private property
- respect trail users, obey designated trail uses and maintain safe distances from all open trails
- not construct permanent tree stands or damage trees for tree stands
- not use a motorized vehicle off designated motorized trails to retrieve game
- not litter (including cigarettes and tissues)
Please note that dogs are not allowed when deer hunting in this Wildlife Management Unit.
Remember, firearms cannot be discharged from or across a right of way for the passage of vehicular traffic at any time (from the Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary).
