Subsidized Housing
If you have low to moderate income, you can apply for one of Northumberland County's Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) units. There are also spaces for seniors and people requiring wheelchair modified units.
RGI assistance makes sure that a person or family does not pay more than 30% of its gross monthly income on rent.
There are RGI units in Brighton, Campbellford, Cobourg, Colborne, Hastings, Port Hope and Warkworth.
If you are eligible, your name will go on a waiting list when you apply. The waiting time will depend on the locations you picked on your application, the number of bedrooms you need and the turnover rate.

There is a long wait list for RGI units in Northumberland. Most people need to find their own rental housing in the private market while they are on the waitlist. You must apply for RGI housing to be placed on the waitlist. You can apply in any of the following ways:
If you require modifications to your unit, such as no stairs or wheelchair accessible, you must complete the limitations assessment form. You may be eligible for Special Priority on the waitlist if:
You must give us proof of the abuse from someone that is working with you professionally. We also need proof that you live with or used to live with the person who is abusing you. You can apply for Special Priority by downloading and completing the application form. Please note that you must complete both the Special Priority application and the RGI application. |

How do I update my application? |
Applicants are required to keep us informed of any changes to their original application. At minimum, an application update form must be completed every two years. |
